Creating a shadow file

Perform these steps on an existing test clock with care as any mistakes in this process will render the clock unusable.

Note: If you change the root password and then forget the password, you cannot perform some clock administration tasks. Care should be taken to document the root password as soon as the password is updated.
  1. Using PuTTY, login to the clock as the root user.
  2. Type this command and press Enter:
    echo "root:{password}" | chpasswd -m

For example, if the password is infor, the password will be as follows:

    echo "root:infor" | chpasswd -m
  3. Execute <CTRL>+<D> to exit the password change utility.
  4. Type this command and press Enter to exit PuTTY:
    exit
  5. Restart PuTTY and login to the clock as root with the new password.
  6. Copy the /etc/shadow file from the clock to a temporary location on the WFM server if you are an on-premise implementation. If you hare on a cloud implementation, attach the file to a support ticket in the Customer Portal.
Note: For cloud implementations, Infor Support will assist you in deploying the change to your clocks.
