Using Auto Assignment with Clinical Science: Overview

When Clinical Science is used in conjunction with the Infor Workforce Management Auto Assignment module, patient assignments are made automatically based on criteria that is created at your site. The results are an algorithm that Clinical Science uses to automatically assign patients to employees.

The algorithm is based on information about:
  • Patients:
    • Number of patients in the unit.
    • Level of care required for each patient. This is based on a patient's workload.
    • Bed proximity: Location of patient beds to minimize distance between assigned patients. The feature prevents staff from being assigned to patients whose beds are far apart, thus helping to minimize fatigue.
  • Employees:
    • Number of employees needed to meet staffing requirements.
    • Continuity of care: Whether an employee has previously cared for a current patient.

Based on the results of the algorithm, Auto Assignment creates a proposed schedule. A staff person, typically, a charge nurse, can accept the proposed schedule as-is or make changes. If manual changes are made, they are logged automatically.

The sections that follow provide more details about how to make assignments with Auto Assignment in Clinical Science.
