Creating new units
You can create a new unit for a team.
- Select Clinical Science > Setup > Units > Unit Information - Override.
- Click New.
-
Specify the team to associate with this new unit in the Team field.
The Unit and Description fields are populated using the specified team's name and description.
-
Specify this information:
- Active
- Select this check box to designate the unit as active. Active units are displayed in the Clinical Science screens.
- GNDB Number
- This field is currently not supported.
- Unit Gov Rep Code
- Optionally, select the government reporting code that identifies this unit.
- Available Beds
- Specify the number of available beds for the unit.
- Licensed Beds
- Specify the number of licensed beds for the unit.
- Fatigue/Delay Factor
- Specify the amount, in decimal values up to 1, that is used to increase the workload for interventions that have enabled the Fatigue and Delay Factor option. For example, if the fatigue/delay factor was 0.07, interventions with this option enabled would increase by 7 percent. This would increase the workload value for an intervention that takes 20 minutes to 21.4 minutes.
-
Click Submit.
The unit is created and the Day Parts and Patient Care Types sections are displayed.
-
In the Day Parts section, specify the number of patients
that each nurse is expected to cover during each day part in the Target Patients per Nurse field. These
values must be specified as whole numbers. These values become the nurse to
patient ratios in Clinical Science screens and reports. For example, the nurse
to patient ratio for the
LATE_MORNING_6_12
day part is 1:4 or one nurse for four patients.Note: The day parts displayed are non-editable and are derived from the day part set specified for the team. -
In the Patient Care Types section, associate patient care
types with the new unit by clicking Add New
Row and then specifying this information:
- Patient Care Type
- Select a patient care type.
- Auto-Discharge
- Select this check box if the patient care type is automatically discharged from the unit at midnight (12:00 AM).
- Census Calculation
- Select one of these options to determine the method to
calculate the daily census for this patient care type:
- Average:The census is calculated by dividing the number of patients that have scored workloads during the 24-hour period by the number of day parts.
- Simple Count: The census is the number of patients that have scored workload during the day part.
- Add additional patient care types as required.
- Click Submit.
The unit is saved and can now be used in Clinical
Science.
