Unassigned shifts
Auto-Assignment can generate unassigned shifts to compensate for understaffing. The registry parameter AS_GENERATE_UNASSIGNED controls if unassigned shifts are generated by Auto-Assignment when there are not enough employees available to cover the full workload. When this parameter is set to true, unassigned shifts are generated to cover gaps in coverage. Similar to assigned shifts, an unassigned shift is only created if 50% or more of the shift covers a workload requirement. This is useful because a schedule is generated that provides full coverage, assuming the unassigned shifts can be filled by assigning employees from other departments, through Shift Billboard, or other methods.
When using the Maximum Schedule Budget
rule, unassigned shifts are generated when the budget is too low to cover all the staff
requirements. Unassigned shifts do not contribute to cost until they are assigned to an
employee. Care should be taken when manually assigning these shifts, as the assignment
may cause the schedule cost to exceed the budget.
You can disable the generation of unassigned shifts by setting the AS_GENERATE_UNASSIGNED registry parameter to false.
