Priority shifts
Shifts can be set as priority shifts to ensure that the shifts are assigned when Auto-Assignment generates the schedule. A shift is set as a priority shift by adding the PRIORITY property with a value of yes in Shift Configuration.
See "Shift Configuration" in the Infor Workforce Management Multiview Scheduler User Guide.
All priority shifts must be assigned for a schedule to be created. This works as an implied hard constraint. If any priority shifts cannot be assigned in an Auto-Assignment run, Auto-Assignment does not assign any shifts.
Care should be taken not to designate too many shifts as priority shifts, because it makes it impossible to create any schedule. For example, there are 12 priority shifts on a given day, but only 10 employees are available to be assigned to the shifts. Auto-Assignment would not assign any of the shifts, because it cannot leave the two remaining priority shifts unassigned.
A preference is given to priority shifts when the schedule is generated. Auto-Assignment assigns priority shifts when given a choice between assigning a priority shift and non-priority shift.
The priority shift type can also be specified for rules that can be applied to a specific shift type. For example, a rule can be added to require that each employee is assigned a minimum number of priority shifts per schedule period.
