Overview of the data migration process

The data migration process involves these high-level steps. For more detailed information, you can refer to the referenced topics.

  1. Configuring the data migration environment. There are several steps involved in configuring your migration environment to ensure the migration is successful:
    • Creating a PGP key in your target WFM environment and specifying that key in your source environment/instance of WFM when configuring your migration environment.
    • Configuring a File Transfer Endpoint in WFM. This permits the data migration to access the target environment to send the encrypted data migration file.
      Note: For private key authentication, use the OpenSSH format for your SSH key.

  2. Creating the Outbound Migration in your source environment/instance of WFM. This step involves specifying the functional objects or tables that are be sent to the target environment/instance of WFM as part of the data migration.

  3. Importing the Inbound Migration file into your target environment/instance of WFM using Job Scheduler. This step involves creating a Job Scheduler task that sends the migration file to your target environment.

  4. Importing the contents of the Inbound Migration file. This step uses a wizard to examine the contents of the incoming migration before finalizing the migration and importing the configuration data changes.

  5. Viewing the migration import transactions. You can view the configuration data changes that were made to your target instance of WFM as part of the migration. You can view the details of each transaction that was performed as part of the migration.

  6. You also have the option of rolling back or rerunning the migration within a specified time period.

Note: After your migration is complete, you can also archive data related to the migration that is no longer required. For more information, see Archiving migration data that is no longer required.
