Configuring the audit logging database

Before you configure the audit logging database, collect this database information:

  • Workforce Management database server type
  • Database server and port number
  • Database user ID and password
  • Service name or Database name (depending on the database server type)
  1. Start the Cognos Configuration program.
  2. From the actions menu, select Stop to stop the Cognos server.
  3. In the explorer pane, select Local Configuration > Environment > Logging.
  4. In the Logging - Component Properties pane, set enable TCP to True.
  5. In the explorer pane, right-click Logging and select New Resource > Destination.
  6. Specify this information:
    Name
    Specify a name for the new resource. For example, Audit Database.
    Type
    Select Database.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the explorer pane, right-click the new resource and select New Resource > Database.
  9. Specify this information:
    Name
    Specify a name for the new database. For example, Audit Database.
    Type
    Select the database that matches your Workforce Management database.
  10. Click OK.
  11. In the explorer pane, select the new database.
  12. Specify this information in the Resource Properties pane:
    Database Server and port number
    Specify a name for the new database and port number.
    User ID
    Specify a user ID to log into the new database.
    Password
    Specify a password for the new database.
    Service or Database Name
    Service name for an Oracle database or the database name when using other database types (for example, Microsoft SQL Server).
  13. Select File > Save.
  14. Select Actions > Start.
    This completes the configuration. Trace statements will now be displayed below a report.
