Splitting and merging shifts in ASV

Shifts can be split into portions in Advanced Schedule View (AVS). The subtopics in this section describe the procedure.

Splitting a shift might be required, for example, if an employee became ill and a portion of their shift must be assigned to another employee. Another reason is if an employee has called in sick for a entire shift but a single employee is not available to cover the entire shift. The shift can be split and assigned to multiple employees.

Merging a shift means re-combining parts of a shift that has been split. This might be necessary, for example, if the employee who was assigned to take part of a shift is now available to cover the entire shift.

Depending on the requirements of your site, you can allow only system administrators and supervisors to split and merge shifts or you can enable employees to do it for themselves.

Note: The RCA module also offers the ability to split and revert shifts. If you are splitting or reverting a shift for that module, refer to the RCA instructions in this document. Splitting shifts using RCA
