Configuring DBLookups to include the element description

Using field-level security, you can configure individual lookups to include the element descriptions in the results that are returned in the lookup. This feature is useful for lookups that contain many choices or when the element names are not descriptive enough. By default, element descriptions are not shown in mobility lookups.

When a user has access to the element descriptions in a lookup, the associated description is displayed below the name of each element, assuming a description is available. Some lookup elements may not have any associated descriptions, or the descriptions may be blank. In these cases, no description is displayed.

To view the associated descriptions in a lookup, users require View or Edit permission to the element description for that lookup. For example, you can control whether the description is shown for the Team lookup on the My Team page using the FIELD_MYTEAM_TEAMLOOKUP_DESC element, which is found on the MOB_MY_TEAM maintenance form.

Note: The element name must be displayed in the lookup; you cannot display only the descriptions.
