Auto-Assignment rules

Auto-Assignment rules are used to add further controls to Auto-Assignment runs. These rules are optional.

In these rules some of the constraints are considered very highly weighted preferences. This weighting allows the rules to work with the optimization model and avoid infeasible solutions.

These conditions are applied to the rules:

  • In all Min/Max rules, only the working hours are counted. Any non-working activity and unpaid activity within the shift is discounted from the totals.
  • A rule may be configured as both a preference and a constraint in a given situation. This rule configuration can occur when the constraint parameter includes the preference parameter. For example, a constraint can be a maximum of 50 hours per week, and a preference can be a maximum of 40 hours per week.
  • When a "two week period" is used as a time period for a scheduling rule, the two week period starts at the beginning of the assigned schedule period.
