Pay groups

Pay groups combine employees who share the same payroll characteristics, such as employees who are paid at the same frequency and by the same payroll system. Whatever the rationale, the objective of the pay group is to group employees together according to similarities in the ways they are paid. Every employee in the application must be assigned to a payroll group. Employees who are not paid through the application should be assigned to a payroll group defined to not be exported to an external payroll system.

How many payroll groups an organization requires is dependent on a number of factors:

  • Frequency of pay
  • Payroll end dates
  • Payroll system used
  • Employee classification

Examples of payroll groups used in the application might include Hourly - Weekly, Hourly - Bi-Weekly, Salary - Weekly, and Salary - Bi-Weekly.
