Reader setup

Clocks are used by employees to record when they perform actions such as starting work, taking a break, and changing jobs.

To set up clock readers in the application, these basic components and connections are required:

  • Reader server types
  • Reader servers
  • Reader groups
  • Readers
  • Employees

This diagram shows the relationship between these components:

The components form this hierarchy:

  • You require one reader server type and reader server for one or more types of clocks.
  • You require at least one reader group for a group of clocks. Reader groups link the clocks in a similar physical location to all the employees who use them to punch in and out. Providing several reader groups is common for security and performance considerations.
  • You require one clock reader that is defined in the application for every installed clock.

To set up clocks, you must perform these steps:

  1. Add a reader server type. For example CMI, RSI, or Synel.
  2. Add a reader server.
  3. Add a reader group.
  4. Add a clock reader.
  5. Assign employees to a reader group.
  6. Configure daylight saving time (DST) settings.
