Shift trades

Employees can request a shift swap to trade shifts with another employee, or a shift give-away to give their shift to a substitute employee. As a system administrator, you can enable or disable shift trades or give-aways for users in specific security groups. The messages, fields, and labels used in a shift trade or give-away can be localized.

Shift trades can only occur with employees who are available and who are qualified to work the shifts. Shift trades cannot be performed on shifts that have already started. Additional validations are performed on shift trade requests to ensure that they are valid according to the configuration.

A shift trade request must complete a workflow for the change to be reflected in the schedule. The workflow sends messages to users who must accept or reject shift requests, including substitute employees and supervisors. Users who request shift trades receive messages notifying them when the request has been accepted or rejected. The workflow can be customized to add additional approvals or validations.
