Location Tree and Organization Hierarchy

The location tree is a graphical representation of your organization: stores and departments, grouped by corporate entities (Regions, Districts, and so on).

The location tree displays a hierarchical structure of locations and their sub-locations. The initial entry on all location trees (which cannot be edited) is the application-defined default location, Parent. The Parent location is the root node location used to create initial locations for your organization when you begin setting up the application.

Locations are grouped into categories including corporate entities, stores and departments. Some of these categories are pre-defined location types, such as stores and departments, while others can be adjusted or created to reflect the composition of your organization. See Location Types.

This list defines the available set of location categories in hierarchical order:

  • A corporate entity () is a pre-defined internal location type that can act as a grouping mechanism. Corporate entities can contain other location types including other corporate entities, stores, departments and drivers. Use corporate entities to represent regional or district locations.
  • A store () is a pre-defined internal location type that contains departments, drivers and their staffing requirements. A store is a parent location to all of the department and driver entities and a child location to the parent corporate entity.
  • A department () is a pre-defined internal location type that represents the sub-location of a store. A department is always the child to the parent store.

The location tree does not display any entity types other than corporate entities, stores, and departments.
