Schedule costing by work date or calendar date

You can configure how overnight shifts are handled in cost calculations used in the LFSO Schedule screen. By default, costs and hours are calculated based on the work date of shifts in the schedule. Costs and hours can also be calculated based on the calendar date when the work takes place. Typically, cost differences between these options occur when shifts overlap two schedule periods.

The registry parameter LFSO_METRICS_CALCULATION_BY_CALENDAR_DAY controls how costs and hours are calculated. When this registry parameter is set to false, these calculations are based on the work date of each shift. When set to true, these calculations are based on the calendar date when work takes place. This configuration affects the figures displayed in the Cost & Score section. It also affects the total hours and days calculated for each employee.

For example, a store starts each schedule period on Monday. An employee is assigned a shift that takes place from 9:00 PM Sunday to 5:00 AM Monday. When costs are calculated using the work date, all eight hours in the shift are counted towards Sunday, in the schedule period when the shift starts. None of the hours in the shift are counted towards the next schedule period, even though five hours of the shift take place on Monday.

When costs are calculated using calendar dates, the shift counts the three hours on Sunday towards the schedule period when the shift starts. The five hours that take place on Monday count towards the next schedule period.
