Ethernet Troubleshooting

This table lists potential Ethernet connection problems:

Problem

Details and Resolution

The terminal is not communicating with the host.

The communication parameters may not have been correctly set. Check the settings and modify any that are incorrect, such as the gateway IP address or the clock's IP address. See Connecting the Clock to the Network.

Verify:

  • The cable is plugged into both ends (clock and hub) and terminated to the appropriate eight- position modular connector.
  • The single segment cable length is equal or less than the specified 328 feet (100 meters). The cable should also be a 10/100BASE-T category 5, twisted pair high-speed data transmission cable with both ends properly crimped.

Also, check the Ethernet diagnostic LEDs:

  • BUSY: Clock reader is processing.
  • LINK: Clock reader is linked to host.
