Clinical Science Overview

Clinical Science is a healthcare patient assignment solution for Infor Workforce Management that is based on a methodology known as GRASP that has been used in healthcare for many years. Clinical Science uses clinical documentation from a patient electronic health record to understand individual care needs. To calculate the care provided to each patient, the documentation retrieved from the electronic health record is converted into numeric workload values that reflect hours of care. These values are then used in WFM to make balanced nurse/patient assignments and ensure each unit is staffed with an adequate number of qualified employees.

Infor has developed a methodology to measure workload and present it as quantitative data. Workload is defined as the amount of care a patient requires.

Workload data is translated into staffing requirements that are used in WFM during the scheduling process. The Patient Assignment screen in Clinical Science is used to assign admitted patients to staff. The assignment process can be optimized by considering workload value, proximity of patient location, and history of staff assignments. Supervisors and in-charge staff can use this data and their professional judgment to make fair and balanced patient care assignments.
