Generating shifts crossing multiple schedule periods

By default, Auto-Assignment generates shifts that start and end within the same schedule period. This can generate schedules for locations with overnight or 24-hour operations where too many shifts end simultaneously or where shifts covering overnight periods are not generated. For example, an overnight schedule could end all scheduled employees' shifts at 12:00 AM Sunday night, requiring the entire staff to changeover at midnight.

Auto-Assignment can generate crossover shifts that overlap the end of the current schedule period and continue into the next schedule period. This is enabled by selecting the Enforce Schedule Crossover check box when generating LFSO schedules. The Enforce Schedule Crossover check box is hidden by default for manual schedule generation. The check box can be enabled through security permission configuration.

When generating a schedule with crossover shifts, Auto-Assignment must derive staffing requirements for the day that immediately follows the current schedule period. These staffing requirement are taken from the next week's staffing requirements. They determine the number of employees required in the crossover intervals, which are the intervals following the current schedule period. Before generating the schedule, it is recommended to generate the forecast or workload for both the current schedule period and the week after. The crossover intervals use the location's minimum staffing requirements if the forecast or workload has not been generated for the day following the current schedule period.

For example, a location has hours of operation from 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM and generates a weekly schedule from Monday to Sunday. The intervals between 12:00 AM Sunday to 2:00 AM Monday use the staffing requirements for the Monday immediately following the schedule period.
