Budget rules and calendar day cut

Budget rules respect the Enforce Calendar Day Cut option when it is selected in an Auto-Assignment group. This affects how Auto-Assignment calculates costs for overnight shifts. It also affects the assignment of costs for shifts that overlap multiple schedule periods.

For Auto-Assignment purposes, shift costs are calculated differently depending on if the Enforce Calendar Day Cut check box is selected. When this check box is selected, shift costs are calculated based on the calendar date when each hour is scheduled. By default and when this check box is cleared, shift costs are calculated as if all hours occur on the work date of a shift.

Calculating shift costs by calendar date affects the calculation of overtime hours when working with dollar budgets. The schedule incurs daily overtime when an employee's scheduled hours on a calendar date exceed the daily overtime threshold. Weekly overtime hours are similarly calculated based on the exact start and end of the calendar week. Hours outside the calendar date or week are excluded from overtime calculations, even when occurring in shifts that overlap the calendar date or week.

Using calendar date also affects the cost assignment for shifts that cross multiple schedule periods. When Enforce Calendar Day Cut is selected, hours that cross over from previous schedule periods are counted towards the budget for the current schedule period. For example, a schedule is being generated for a location using the Maximum Schedule Budget rule and an hourly budget. An employee is assigned from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on the last day of the previous schedule period. The 5 hours after midnight are counted towards the budget for the current schedule period. This reduces the hours that can be assigned in the current schedule period without going over budget.
Note: The Schedule to Budget rule adjusts staff requirements for intervals after midnight on the last day of the schedule period when the Enforce Calendar Day Cut and Enforce Schedule Crossover options are enabled.
