Consecutive shift edit management

These shift transactions can cause an overlap with another shift of the same employee:

  • Lengthening a shift in the ASV or Staffing Center
  • Reverting a shift swap between two employees (restoring the original shifts)
  • Canceling an OFF-type book off (restoring the original shift)

When a partial overlap occurs as a result of one of these transactions, a warning message is now displayed indicating the impacted shift(s), instead of a hard-stop error message preventing the transaction. The warning message visually presents the shift overlap situation, as well as the resulting schedule if the overlap is managed. If you proceed with the transaction, then the impacted shift(s) are shortened to accommodate the transaction as shown in the warning, resulting in consecutive shifts. For example, an employee is scheduled with two shifts on the same day, 7:00 to 15:00 and 15:00 to 23:00. If you extend the earlier shift by 2 hours (ending shift at 17:00 instead), then the start time of the later shift will be changed to 17:00 to accommodate the shift edit.

If a full shift overlap occurs as a result of one of these transactions, the current hard-stop error message will be displayed, preventing the completion of the transaction. The system does not remove shifts on behalf of users due to shift overlaps.
