Editing Staffed Shifts

If an employee is assigned to a shift and you want to shorten the employee’s assignment, but retain the remainder of the shift as an unstaffed shift to be assigned to another employee.

For example, PC John is assigned to the 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM shift as a Patrolman, with Team A and has been assigned job details so he is working from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM driving a patrol car and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM walking a beat. If John suddenly had to be in court as a witness from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, but you wanted his remaining time and assignments to stand, you could edit his shift by doing one of the following:

Remove John from the shift and reassign him to the part of the shift where he is available, automatically creating the necessary partial unstaffed shift to satisfy staffing requirements, or

Modify John’s shift to reflect the time he can work and create a new unstaffed shift for the part of the shift he cannot work.

You can configure whether or not a Remove operation should create an unstaffed shift using the CREATE_UNSTAFFED_ON_REMOVE parameter. For information about this parameter, see the Registry Parameter Reference Guide.
