General Troubleshooting

This table lists potential general problems and details on how to resolve them:

Problem

Details and Resolution

The clock does not power up and the display is blank.

The clock does not have power. Do:

  • Ensure the primary side of the DC power pack assembly is plugged into a live AC outlet. Ensure the secondary side of DC power pack assembly is plugged into the clock reader.
  • Test the outlet by plugging in another appliance.
  • Replace the power pack assembly.

After the initial power-up, the clock displays IP address, or the normal idle screen message is not displayed.

The WB6000 does not have a clock program loaded. See Loading the Clock Program.

The clock is not communicating with the WBCS.

The communication cable connecting the clock to the WBCS is defective or unplugged. Or the clock server is not running.

  • Verify that the cable is plugged into both ends.
  • Ethernet connections must have a wire length shorter than 328 wire feet (100 meters) connecting the clock to the Ethernet hub/switch.
  • Ensure the clock program is loaded and running on the host.
  • Ensure all communication parameters on the host and clock reader match.
  • Ensure the server running WBCS is on and the WBCS service is running.

Clock does not accept badge data.

There are several possibilities:

  • The bar code badge is not manufactured to proper specification. See the vendor's specifications for manufacturing criteria and verify.
  • The badge is being swiped in the wrong direction; ensure the media faces to the right (away from the keypad) when swiping.
  • The badge code format is not supported; ensure the badge code is among those supported. Supported codes include most standard bar code formats including UPCA, 128, 3 of 9, 2 of 5, Interleave 2 of 5 and more, as well as IATA Track I and ABA Track II magnetic stripe input (program dependent).
  • The badge reader requires cleaning; swipe a pre-moistened (isopropyl alcohol) cleaning card through the reader several times and retry a swipe.
  • The badge number does not exist. See Setting Up Employee Badge Numbers.
