Auto-Assignment overview

The Auto-Assignment feature in Infor Workforce Management is designed to help speed up scheduling processes and apply rules to the scheduling of assignments. Auto-Assignment uses a mathematical optimization model to produce the best possible schedule based on the parameters of a given schedule problem. The parameters may include the availability of qualified employees, the number and type of shifts required during the schedule period, and the rules governing schedule creation.

The optimization model is extremely flexible, and can create schedules that meet the needs of organizations with widely different business needs across various industries. The configuration of Auto-Assignment must be carefully considered to enable the model to produce schedules that meet the business needs of your client.

Auto-Assignment generates schedules that are fully compatible with either the Multi-view Scheduler (MVS) module or the Labor Forecasting and Schedule Optimization (LFSO) module. The selection of which module to use with Auto-Assignment depends on the industry and business needs of the client. Auto-Assignment for LFSO is designed to meet the needs of retail environments. The model provides scheduling solutions that are optimized for the workload requirements, which may vary widely at different times of the day or between days based on historical performance or other factors. It creates a schedule where employees work a variety of shifts and rotations to meet this demand.

Auto-Assignment in MVS is designed for the needs of healthcare or public sector organizations. Employees in these organizations may have strict requirements for their shifts and rotations that are based on union rules, regulations, or other policies. Auto-assignment for MVS assigns shifts that are precisely defined in terms of work times, activities, and breaks to create schedules that are optimized to meet the workload requirements and scheduling rules of the organization.

The primary configuration point for Auto-Assignment is the Auto-Assignment Group. An Auto-Assignment group is where you select the employees to be scheduled during an Auto-Assignment process and define the rules that tell the optimizer which schedule decisions are allowed, and which decisions are preferred, when creating the schedule. Most features in an Auto-Assignment Group are relevant whether you are using the LFSO or MVS module, but some features are specific to only one module. This guide indicates when an option is specific to either MVS or LFSO, so that these options can be ignored by users of the other module.
