Shift Trade

Employees can request a shift give away to give their shift to a substitute employee. They can also request a swap to trade a shift for a shift that is assigned to another employee. As a system administrator in the Self Service Portal, you can enable or disable shift trades or giveaways for users in specific security groups. The messages, fields, and labels used in shift trade or give away can be localized.

Shift trades can only occur between employees that are available and that are qualified to work the shifts. Shift trades cannot be performed on shifts where the shift start time has already past. Additional validations are performed on shift trade requests to ensure that the request is valid according to the configuration.

Shift trade requests must complete a workflow for the change to be reflected in the schedule. The workflow sends messages to users that are required to make a decision to accept or reject shift requests, including substitute employees and supervisors. Users that request shift trades receive messages notifying them when the request has been accepted or rejected. The workflow can be customized to add additional approvals or validations based on custom conditions.
