Examples

This section includes some practical examples of shifts that violate or pass this schedule compliance rule.

Example Configuration

The following examples use this configuration setting:

Max Hours / Day: 10

Example 1 - Violation (long shift)

Employee A is scheduled to work:

  • Monday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Thursday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM

Schedule compliance returns a violation because the employee is scheduled 12 hours on Thursday.

Example 2 - Violation (sum of shifts)

Employee B is scheduled to work:

  • Monday
    • Shift 1- 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    • Shift 2- 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Tuesday
    • Shift 1- 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Shift 2- 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM
  • Wednesday 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Thursday 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM)

Schedule compliance returns a violation because the employee is scheduled 12 hours on Monday.

Example 3 - Violation

Employee C is scheduled to work:

  • Monday
    • Shift 1- 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    • Shift 2- 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Tuesday
    • Shift 1- 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Shift 2- 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM
  • Wednesday 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Thursday 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM).

Schedule compliance returns a violation because 12 hours are attributed to Tuesday. The 6 hour shift from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM is added to Tuesday’s earlier 6 hour shift for a total of 12 hours attributed to Tuesday.

Example 4 - Pass

Employee D is scheduled to work:

  • Monday
    • Shift 1- 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    • Shift 2- 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Tuesday 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM
  • Wednesday 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Thursday 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM

Schedule compliance does not return a violation because the first 8 hours on Wednesday are attributed to Tuesday.
