Fixed shifts

Fixed shifts are recurring shifts assigned to employees that are not created through schedule optimization. Schedulers can assign specific employees to fixed shifts for predictable coverage every week. This is particularly useful when scheduling tasks that are performed outside peak demand times. Schedulers can use fixed shifts to assign a consistent shift pattern to specific employees.

A shift pattern can be assigned to an employee in their employee profile. This assigns the employee to a rotation of fixed shifts, which spans a defined number of days, typically one or more weeks. For example, a 7-day fixed shift pattern could have assigned shifts from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday, a shift from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday, and no scheduled hours on Saturday and Sunday (OFF). Shift patterns are managed through Time and Attendance (T&A).

See "Creating employee schedules" in the Infor Workforce Management Time and Attendance Implementation and Administration Guide.

In LFSO, you can use the Employee Shift Pattern maintenance form to edit shift patterns for individual employees. You can also define how fixed shifts are used for the employee in optimized schedules. Employees can be assigned to only fixed shifts to provide them with a predictable work schedule and guaranteed hours. Fixed shifts can be used as a baseline schedule for an employee that shifts are added to by schedule optimization. Alternatively, fixed shifts can be disabled for employees that are only scheduled through schedule optimization.

The appropriate schedule rules must be enabled in the relevant staff groups or Auto-Assignment groups to use fixed shifts. See these topics for more details:

  • For Auto-Assignment groups, see "Employee shift patterns" in the Infor Workforce Management Auto-Assignment Implementation Guide.
