Controlling the sensitivity of the fingerprint reader

The bioMetric.threshold and bioMetric.threshold.enroll settings control the sensitivity of the fingerprint reader in 9000 Series clocks. Both of these configuration settings default to the normal operations setting of READ_BACK. These configuration settings can be found in the settings.conf file of your clock.

On clock start up, the device is initialized to the value specified in bioMetric.threshold. Normal operations occur with this setting.

When enrolling fingerprints, the device is set to the value specified in bioMetric.threshold.enroll. This setting can be set to a higher value to improve the quality of the fingerprint scan during enrollment.

After fingerprint enrollment, The device is set back to the value specified in bioMetric.threshold. Normal operations return with this setting.

Use this procedure to control the sensitivity of the fingerprint reader during enrollment:

  1. Connect to the clock you want to update with Admin Console.
  2. On the Settings tab of Admin Console, right-click the bioMetric.threshold.enroll property and select Modify Value.
  3. Specify these values that control the sensitivity of the fingerprint reader during enrollment:
    LOW
    Low sensitivity.
    MEDIUM
    Medium sensitivity.
    HIGH
    High sensitivity.
    READ_BACK
Normal operations setting. This is the default setting. In this setting, the fingerprint reader operates with no additional sensitivity.
    VERY_HIGH
Very high sensitivity. This setting is only supported for clocks with the Lumidigm fingerprint reader.
  4. Enter a value and click OK.
  5. Click Update Server in Admin Console. No restart of the clock is required for your changes to take effect.
Note: If you are required to update multiple clocks, then you can use the configuration update process. For more information, see Configuration Updates for the Clock.
