Data Migration Terms

Functional Object (or Object)

A hierarchical grouping of tables. Tables are grouped according to functionality (e.g., Form Builder and Team Security) and you can compare and migrate child records of the objects as well.

Compare Mode

A mode of operation that enables you to compare data in the source and destination databases before migrating the data.

Specify Criteria Mode

A mode of operation that enables to select specific criteria to determine the data to be exported from the source database.

Mode of Operation

The mode in which you use the Migration Tool to determine the data to migrate—either Compare Mode or Specify Criteria Mode.

Configuration File

An .xml file that stores the configuration details used by the Migration Tool (e.g., the available databases).

Migration File

An .xml file that stores details of a specific migration (e.g., which records are being migrated from the source database to the destination database).

Export Summary Report

A report showing the details of the data that is to be migrated (after you have performed a comparison of data or selected specific criteria). This allows you to verify the migration details.

Source Database

The database containing the data you want to migrate to another database (destination database).

Destination Database

The database to which you want to migrate the data in the source database.

Schema File

An .xml file that lists all tables and functional objects on which the Migration Tool operates.
