Setting shift labor allocations

The application can track the number of hours employees that are assigned to a shift pattern work and allocate that time to specific metrics such as jobs, projects, and departments. For example, a shift pattern allocating 100% of the labor to the Office Move project with five employees working 40 hours a week would charge 200 hours of labor to the Office Move project. Any additional employees added to this shift pattern automatically charge the project for their hours.

There are two types of labor allocation: individual and shift pattern. To allocate the hours that are worked in a shift pattern, which is optional, you need to set the shift pattern labor allocation. If the shift pattern labor allocation is blank, the application uses the employee's individual default labor allocation. The shift labor allocation overrides an employee's specific default labor allocation.

Note: To enable this feature, set the SHIFT_PATTERN_LABOR_ENABLED registry parameter to True.

To set up shift pattern labor allocations:

  1. Select Maintenance > Schedule Settings > Shift Pattern.
  2. Click Edit next to the shift for which you want to set the labor allocation.
  3. In the Shift Pattern Shift Labor section, click the new row link to add a row.
  4. Specify this information:
    Shift Pattern Shifts
Specify the day number of the shift pattern.

Allocate the labor that is worked on each specific day in the pattern individually. For example, when allocating the labor in the second day of the pattern, specify 2.

    Start Time
Specify the time the labor allocation begins.

Labor for the entire day does not have to apply to one allocation and an allocation does not have to cover the entire time. The labor allocation can start any time after the shift starts and end any time before the shift ends.

For example, on day one of a shift pattern, even though the shift runs from 12:00 to 20:00, the labor allocation starts at 1:00 and runs to 4:00, charging the IT department for the time. Another allocation starts at 4:00 and runs until 19:00 for the Admin department. This shift pattern shares the employees between two departments.

    End Time
Specify the time the labor allocation ends.

Specify any time within the shift.

    Docket
Optionally, select a docket to charge for the labor from the lookup.

Generally, dockets are only used for incentive pay systems to measure employee production quantity.

Employees or supervisors can override this default rate.

Jobs describe the actual function that is performed by the employee.

    Time Code
Optionally, select a time code, which classifies how the extent of time was spent, from the lookup.
    Project
Optionally, select a project to charge the labor towards from the lookup.

Leave this field blank if you selected a docket.
