Create Unstaffed Shifts Process

The Create Unstaffed Shifts process can be used if you want to create unstaffed shifts from the staffing requirements. This process uses the selected team(s) and schedule period to compare staffed shifts to the staffing requirements. It creates unstaffed shifts of the staffing requirements that have not been met within the schedule, thereby, showing any holes in the schedule.

For example, imagine there is a staffing requirement that specifies the need for three employees to work a morning shift on Tuesday. If one employee is assigned using the auto-assign process and one employee is manually assigned by the scheduler, running the Create Unstaffed Shifts process would result in one unstaffed shift for an employee on Tuesday’s morning shift. It would be apparent to the scheduler (from the existence of an unstaffed shift on the schedule for Tuesday morning) that the staffing requirements for Tuesday morning had not been met.

Typically, the Create Unstaffed Shifts process is run after the staffing requirements are created.

You can run the Create Unstaffed Shifts process in the following ways:

  • From the staffing requirements
  • Using a Job Scheduler batch process

If you created staffing requirements, ran the Create Unstaffed Shifts process, and then had to edit the staffing requirements, you can run the Update Unstaffed Shifts process from the Staffing Requirements page. The Update process performs an incremental update to create any necessary unstaffed shifts arising from the modified staffing requirements.

Before you can run the Create Unstaffed Shifts process, you have to configure the related attributes. For information, see Configuring Attributes.
