Setting Up Time Periods

  1. Select Maintenance > Optional Modules > Labor Budgeting > Labor Budgeting Settings > Time Periods Creation.
The Time Periods Creation page is displayed.
  2. Specify this information:
    Year Name
The name of the year for which you are creating the time periods. The maximum length of this string is 25 characters, including spaces. This name is prepended to (added to the beginning of) the name of every time period in the hierarchy. For example, if you specify the year name as 2008, the time periods in the hierarchy have names such as the following: 2008 Year, 2008 Half 1, 2008 Quarter 1, and 2008 February.

Any leading spaces added at the beginning of the year name are removed when the time periods are created. (Fixpack 21 and higher)

If you include the actual year (for example, 2006) in the Year Name field, make sure the Append Year to the Name check box, below, is not selected. Otherwise, the actual year is displayed twice in the name.

    Year Description
A brief description of the year for which you are creating the time periods. The maximum length of this string is 40 characters, including spaces.

Any leading spaces added at the beginning of the year description are removed when the time periods are created. (Fixpack 21 and higher)

    Append Year to the Name
Optional. Select this check box to append the actual year (for example, 2006) to all time periods of the fiscal year that you are creating. The actual year is displayed in the time period hierarchy in the preview section (right pane).

This option is useful if the Year Name field does not include the actual year. For example, suppose that the year name is Michigan. With this option selected, the time periods in the hierarchy can display names such as Michigan Year 2006, Michigan Half 1 2006, Michigan Quarter 1 2006, or Michigan November 2006.

    Fiscal Year Start Date
Use the date picker (calendar) to select the first day of the fiscal year.

To use the budget payroll data as a constraint for scheduling, the scheduling time periods must match the Labor Budgeting time periods. For example, if the schedule start date in LFSO is a Sunday, then the fiscal year start date must be a Sunday.

Do not create overlapping time periods.

    Fiscal Year Start Month
Assign a month to the first month in your fiscal year in this field. The start month may be different than the month of start date of the fiscal year. For example, if the fiscal year starts on January 29, 2007, the start month of the fiscal year can be February.
    Calendar Type
The number of weeks in consecutive fiscal months in a fiscal quarter. For example, 5-4-4 (the default) means that in the first fiscal quarter, the first fiscal month has 5 weeks, the second fiscal month has 4 weeks, and the third fiscal month has 4 weeks.
    Include 53 Weeks

Optional. Select this to create a year with 53 weeks, instead of a year with 52 weeks.

    Create Semi Annual Time Periods

Optional. Selecting this check box creates two half-year time periods in addition to the Year, Quarters, Months, and Weeks time periods. Select this option if your company requires semi-annual time periods. Otherwise, Labor Budgeting generates a fiscal year with the following time periods only: Year, Quarters, Months, and Weeks.

  3. Click Preview Time Periods to display the time period hierarchy in the right pane.
  4. Specify the desired parameters and click Preview Time Periods.
The Time Period hierarchy is displayed in the right pane.
  5. Click Save.
