Configuring warehouse records for tax interface

Use Product Warehouse Description Setup to setup your warehouse and any tax-specific information.

AvaTax locations do not map to tax codes. The warehouses are created as locations in AvaTax because they are used for tax reporting. Some states that require tax liabilities to be broken out separately for each location.

If you are integrated with Sovos GTD, the proper Geo code and Out of City values should default based on the various field value combinations.

  1. Select Product > Setup > Warehouse Description .
  2. Select the warehouse you want to set up to integrate with Sovos GTD or AvaTax.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. In the General view, verify the name, address, and phone numbers. Your Country code must meet the 2-character ISO 3166 standard.
    Note:

If you are integrated with Sovos GTD, specify the appropriate Geo Code. If appropriate, select the Out of City option. The Out of City option is only used by the Sovos GTD interface.

If you use Vertex Cloud, the Geo Code field is used to specify Tax Area IDs, which is the term Vertex uses for this type of information. Tax Area IDs can be more than two digits. This ID associates the address with a tax jurisdiction. If you select the lookup button on the field, the entered address information is passed to the Vertex Address Lookup call. The Tax Area ID returned is then loaded in the this field.

  5. Click Save.
  6. Select the Taxing view.
  7. In Taxing State, select the state this warehouse resides in.
  8. If you are integrated with Sovos GTD, the Special Tax Code field is displayed. If the warehouse is located in an Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), set this code to Urban Enterprise Zone.
Note: If you are integrated with Sovos GTD, the Special Tax Code field is displayed only if you have enabled Sales Use Tax in SA Company Setup , and have set the Tax Method, the Tax Interface, and the Tax Register and Geo Interface options.
  9. Click Save.
  10. Repeat steps to set up additional warehouses.
