Credit card tokens

Use Customer Credit Card Setup to set up credit card information for a specific customer. This provides a convenient way for you to keep customers’ credit card information on file for quick access. This information defaults into Sales Order Entry fields when you tender a sales order as a credit card payment for that customer. You can set up an unlimited number of credit cards for a customer and customer ship-to locations. You can also specify the sequence in which credit card tokens are displayed in lookup functions.

When you are adding a credit card using CenPOS as your credit card processor, you input the cardholder data (CHD) directly into CenPOS' stand-alone, secure Web browser. Then, CenPOS sends back a token, which is an alias number for the credit card number. The token is a number that is generated by CenPOS. The token is tied to the actual credit card number, which is stored on the CenPOS server.

The CenPOS token process enables your customer to use one credit card number that is shared by multiple buyers. When you add or modify cardholder data, values for these fields are required on the CenPOS form: Client ID [Customer number], Card number, Expiration date, Name on card, Email, Address, and Zip. One token ID is created by CenPOS for each unique combination of these field values: Client ID [Customer number], Card number, and user name Email address. The value in the user name Email address field is used by CenPOS to distinguish between buyers.

Therefore, if you specify a Client ID [Customer number], Card number, and user name Email address that already exists, the existing token is reapproved by CenPOS. A new token is not generated; even if other cardholder data, such as Name on card or Address, is different. The message, Alert: Card Number Already Exists for Customer And Email, notifies you about why the record is not saved. This message is displayed in Customer Credit Card Setup and Sales Order Entry. If you require a new token for a different buyer with the same Card number and Client ID, you must specify a different Email address.

To enable tendering during sales order entry, the token process shows the last four digits of the customer's credit card number. This protection method is called a primary account number (PAN) truncation. The token process provides a recognizable number during setup and tendering.
