Report output to Dropbox
Users can send reports that are processed through Report Scheduler to Dropbox, a secure file hosting service that users install on their personal computers.
Users can send these types of reports to Dropbox:
- Stored or one-time reports that are created in report functions
- On-demand reports that are created in entry functions
Users can also send secondary report output, such as pick tickets and logs, to Dropbox.
To enable users to interface with Dropbox, the system administrator must activate the feature in SA Administrator Options-System-General. To enable individual users to interface with Dropbox, these tasks must be performed:
- The user must sign up for a Dropbox account and install the application locally.
- The system administrator must update the user's SA Operator Setup record with values provide by the user to obtain an authorization key.
After the final authorization key is obtained, the interface can be tested to ensure that the output is sent to Dropbox.
After the Dropbox interface is set up, the user can select Dropbox in the Print Type field on reports throughout the application.
When the report output file is created, the files are transferred to Dropbox by the Dropbox API REST call, based on the user’s authorization key.
The report output is typically a pdf file. If Report Scheduler is run on a Unix or Linux server, the pdf is zipped.
If Windows Explorer is installed on the user’s computer, a Dropbox folder is available in the local directory. Because the Dropbox application automatically synchronizes with the Dropbox folder, the user can access the report output from either location.
If a user who does not have a Dropbox account modifies a saved report that outputs to Dropbox, Dropbox is not available in the Print Type field. If Dropbox is the default value for a secondary printer, a validation error occurs and the user must select another print type.
