Product UPC Number Setup overview
Function acronym: ICSV
Use this function to assign Universal Product Codes (UPC) to products in your inventory. Each UPC number is a unique identifier.
UPC numbers are typically assigned to products that are maintained by a pricing update service or vendor-supplied pricing update disks. They are also used in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) documents and Supplier Link update files.
The structure of UPCs is defined in SA Administrator Options-Products-Alternates/UPC. The vendor and product sections are required, but you can specify label and length of four additional sections. You must define the UPC structure before UPC records are created through one of these methods:
- Manually in Product UPC Number Setup
- Automatically by the PI Entry Update Products Report
You can specify the same product and vendor on multiple UPC records, but the UPC must then be differentiated by a value from another section. You can assign the same UPC to one or more products, but the vendors on each record must be different.
UPCs are displayed in Product Warehouse Product Setup and Product Catalog Setup and are included on reports. You can run the Product Vendor UPC Number Master List Report to generate a list of your UPC numbers.
