Product Administration Inventory Classification and Rank Report ranges and options

Options

Classification
Specify these options to run the report for product classification:
Print Class 1-12 Products?

Select Yes to print products with classifications 1 through 12. You can run the report in non update mode first, so you can review the products and how they might be affected.

Select No if you have already reviewed the products and are ready to update. You are not required to re-print the products.

Print Class 13 (Dead Stock) Products?

Select Yes to review all products classified as Class 13 (dead stock). Stock is considered dead depending on the amount you specify for the Dead Stock Amount Level option in SA Administrator Options-Products-Replenishment.

For example, if the Dead Stock Amount Level is $10.00, all products with an annual amount movement less than $10.00 are put in Class 13, and the Product Warehouse Product Setup status is changed to Do Not Reorder, or Order As Needed, or is unchanged depending on the option you select for the Set Class 13 Products' Status option for this report.

If a product is reclassified from Class 13 up to another class and the status is currently Do Not Reorder, an asterisk is displayed next to the product on the report to indicate you must complete a manual review. The status remains as Do Not Reorder because it is unknown if you want the status to remain the same or be changed to Stock or Order As Needed.

If product usage exists but the cost is zero, the product is ignored by the classification. This generally indicates the product is free and still needs to be tracked in inventory. Manually set the product classification and status. If the product has zero usage and a zero cost, the product is classified as Class 13 because there is no inventory movement of this product.

Print Insufficient History Products?

Select Yes to print all products that do not have at least six months of usage history or 12 months for seasonal products. All insufficient products are listed under a separate report heading labeled "No Products With Insufficient History To Classify."

To determine whether a product has enough history, this function analyzes the usage in the First Merge and Last Merge date fields in Product Warehouse Product Setup-Ordering.

Print Frozen Class Products?

Select Yes to print those products that are considered frozen from the classification method.

If you select the Frozen option in Product Warehouse Product Setup-Ordering, the product is not reclassified when this report is run.

Depending on a product's usage, the product class could change each time this report is run. To keep a product in one class, select the Frozen option.

Even though the frozen class products are printed on the report, they are not taken into consideration for reclassifying all products.

Update Product Classifications?

Select Yes to update the product classifications. In update mode, the values you specify in the Warehouse range apply. The Classification range is ignored because all products are updated. The Classification range determines which classes are printed on the report.

Select No to print the report in non-update mode first to review the products and how they are affected. If you are satisfied, then re-run the report in update mode.

Set Class 13 Products' Status? X/O/N

When products are classified as Class 13 (dead stock) and their status is Stock, change the products’ status to Do Not Reorder (X) or Order As Needed (O). Select No to leave their status unchanged.

If active order lines exist in Sales Order Entry or Transfer Entry, the lines are ignored and an exception is printed on the report. Products are also ignored that contain quantities in these fields in Product Warehouse Product Setup-Costs:
  • Reserved
  • Committed
  • Backordered
  • Demand
  • WT Ship Requests
  • WT Rcv Requests

Select X to change the status to Do Not Reorder.

Select O to change the status to Order As Needed.

Select N to keep the status as Stock.

Include OAN Products in Classification?

Select Yes to include order as needed (OAN) products in the classification if they have usage or override usage history, even when Product Administration Month End Processing Report assigns the New Product frozen reason to the product. This increases the number of items in each class.

Select No to exclude order as needed (OAN) products from this report.

Ranking
Specify these options to run the report to rank products:
Update Rank for Warehouse?

Select Yes to perform ABC ranking for all warehouses specified in the Warehouse range. The Perform Detail Ranking Functionality option must be set to Yes in Product Replenishment Setup to perform ABC ranking.

When you update ranks by warehouse, the products in the range of warehouses you specify in the Warehouse range are ranked in order from A to the specified number of ranks based on these criteria:
  • Rank percentage
  • Number of hits per product
  • Specified number of month's history

The rank is stored in the Warehouse field in Product Warehouse Product Setup-Ordering.

These fields are updated in Product Replenishment Setup on the Detail Rank window:
  • Total Number of Ranks
  • Rank Percentage
  • Months History
Hits are stored in Product Warehouse Product Setup-Ordering on the Usage window:
  • Sales Order Line Hits
  • Warehouse Transfer Line Hits
  • Lost Business Hits
Update Rank for Company?

Select Yes to perform ABC ranking for all products company-wide. You must choose Yes for the Perform Detail Ranking Functionality field in Product Replenishment Setup to perform ABC ranking. All line hits for all products are added together and then the ranking is calculated.

The same product in all warehouses is assigned the same rank. This logic considers these parameters in Product Replenishment Setup on the Detail Rank window:
  • Number of Ranks
  • Rank Percentage
  • Number of Hits for the Product
  • Months history

The rank is stored in the Comp ranking field in Product Warehouse Product Setup-Ordering. The company rank is informational only. It is not used in any calculations. Only the warehouse ranking is used during Product Administration Month End Processing Report for updating ordering controls.

If you rank by both company and warehouse, ranking is first performed for all warehouses and then for only those warehouses within the company.

Print Hit Detail?
Select Yes to print hit rate data for each rank on the report. This information is included on the report:
  • Rank
  • Percent
  • Lowest and highest number of hits for each product
  • Number of products in each rank
  • Percentage at the lowest and highest hit level for each rank
  • Percentage of products in each rank within each warehouse

This option reviews rank levels to ensure that ranks are properly allocated. A summary section shows the lowest and highest figures across all warehouses.

If you have selected to calculate rank based on a minimum number of hits instead of by percentage in Product Replenishment Setup, the percent on the report is calculated. If you specified percentage, the percentage appears.

Update Rank for Frozen 99 Products?
Products with permanently frozen ordering controls, or Months Frozen is set to 99, in Product Warehouse Product Setup are controlled by this option. Typically, you do not rank products that are permanently frozen because this status indicates that the product is being phased out. Ranking is not relevant. Recent product hits may be due to extreme methods of removing the product and does not provide a true profile of the product’s performance.
Select Yes to rank permanently frozen products. If the Frozen option in the Ranking section of Product Warehouse Product Setup-Ordering is selected, the product is never ranked.
Include OAN Products in Ranking?
Select Yes to allow Order As Needed products to be ranked along with regular stocked products. Order As Needed products are designated as such by selecting a Status of O in Product Warehouse Product Setup. If an OAN product should not be ranked or should have its rank frozen, select Frozen for the Rank option in Product Warehouse Product Setup.
In addition to the Include OAN Product in Ranking option, you can also select Yes for the option Include OAN Prods in Classification. OAN products may be included for both classification and ranking, either one, or neither.
Include Products Without Acquire Date?
The Acquired Date in Product Warehouse Product Setup is used as the product's start date to determine if a product is new and whether it should be ranked. Select Yes to assign an acquired date to products that do not have an Acquired Date in Product Warehouse Product Setup and include the product in the ranking. When you select Yes, the report is longer, and may skew the Product Warehouse Product Setup Company and Warehouse Rank, but can be useful if you filter products by warehouse rank.
