Balancing the cash drawer
In a counter sale environment with several operators tendering orders and accepting payments, strict internal procedures must be consistently followed to safeguard the company’s cash. Errors can occur even when all operators carefully handle one transaction at a time and pay close attention to the receipts and cash disbursements. To resolve any errors, you should balance the cash drawer daily at the close of business. Use these instructions to balance your cash drawer.
- At the close of business, view the journals in GL Journal Inquiry.
- Determine why open journals were not closed.
- Select the Cash Drawer Balance Report in .
- Run a new one-time report.
- Compare the tendered amounts against the payment types on the cash drawer tape. Account for any differences.
- If required, make corrections to customer accounts or perform additional tendering. Rerun the Cash Drawer Balance Report.
