Buying unit

The buying unit is set up on the Product Warehouse Product Setup record and updates purchase orders that contain the product. Vendors typically distribute products in quantities larger than the customer wants to purchase.

For example, you can order 4 dozen alarm clocks from your vendor. It is unlikely a customer wants to purchase 4 dozen alarm clocks. In this case, the SKU is each and the buying unit is dozen. When you receive the products in the warehouse, the buying unit initially defaults. It can be changed to handle short and long shipments, different units of measure, and mispacked items. All items are automatically converted to stocking units for inventory tracking.

If the SKU and buying units are the same, leave the Buying Unit field blank and the stocking unit defaults for the product.
