Line entry modes

You can select different line entry modes when you create or maintain sales orders, purchase orders, or warehouse transfers.

From the Line Entry menu in the Select Product stage of Sales Order Entry, you can select these line entry modes:

  • Advanced

Use this mode to add a single line item to the order. In this mode, you can specify additional information that may be required for processing, such as sourcing, serial or lot number assignment, or pricing changes. Values for the line item that may differ from the order, such as Promise Date and Rush status, are available in the Extended Fields section.

If you specify a product on a line and click Finish before you add the line to the order, these events occur:

    1. The line is added to the order.
    2. The order is completed.
  • Easy

Use this mode to conduct a global search for a product. You can use values such as cross-reference values and the product description to search a product. You can add a single line item or multiple line items to the order in this mode.

If you specify a price before dropping the line to the grid, it is treated as a price override. The price that is entered is used regardless of what is set up on the Product Setup or Product Warehouse Product Setup record.
Note: Pricing logic is not initiated when you select products in Easy Line Entry mode. If you use PD Pricing Setup records to set pricing and discounts for most of your products, you can enable alerts about products with associated PD records. Select the Check for Non-Standard Products in Easy and Quick Line Entry option in Sales Order Entry-Order Entry Defaults.
  • Quick

Use this mode to add multiple lines to an order simultaneously. Quick line entry requires fewer steps and processing time than single line entry. Use this method if you use a scanner to enter products on the order.
Note: Pricing logic is not initiated when you select products in Quick Line Entry mode. If you use PD Pricing Setup records to set pricing and discounts for most of your products, you can enable alerts about products with associated PD records. Select the Check for Non-Standard Products in Easy and Quick Line Entry option in Sales Order Entry-Order Entry Defaults.
  • Shopping List

See Shopping List in Sales Order Entry.

  • Return Multiple

Use this mode to add return lines to the order. You can add single or multiple lines from an invoice.

In Easy, Quick, and Return Multiple line entry, you can specify some values, such as quantity, for the line item before you add it to the order. To further edit the line item, click Edit Lines in the Products panel and then select a line item to edit. The line item opens in Advanced line entry. Alternatively, click the product in the Products panel to open the line for editing.

Note: If the order contains more than 25 lines, click Show More in the Products panel to view the additional lines. You can also change the sort order of the line items in the Products panel to view the lines in descending order.

All line entry modes in Sales Order Entry are available, with these exceptions:

  • On Correction orders, only the Advanced and Return Multiple modes are available.
  • On Direct Orders, only the Advanced mode is available.

In Purchase Order Entry and Transfer Entry, you can use Advanced or Easy line entry. The other line entry options are not available.

You can select the default method for the line entry on the Entry Defaults window in each function.
