Product setup versions

Using product setup versions for Value Add and Kit Production allows you to modify the setup of kit and value add (VA) products and retain a history of the previous setup information. For example, you might use this feature to make adjustments to a setup when there are component product changes, changes to the fabrication process, or changes in customer preferences. These revisions to the setup can be made without losing the previous setup which allows you to track product history, manage product maintenance, and reduce the number of setup records to create similar products.

When ordering kit and VA products, you can select which setup to use and, for open orders, you can update the existing setup information when a new product setup version is created after the order is entered.

Security settings allow you to specify whether a user can change previous product setup versions and whether a user can create a new work order or VA order using an earlier version of the product setup.

The product setup version number prints on these reports:

  • KP Work Order Master List Report
  • KP Where Used Report
  • KP Work Order Status Report
  • VA Entry Processing Internal Value Add Print Report
  • VA Entry Processing Pick Tickets Report
  • VA Master List Report

The product setup version number, version reference text, and the version’s creation date print on these reports:

  • KP Bill of Materials Report
  • KP Kit Component Master List Report

Versions

Version numbering allows you to change the setup of a kit or VA product and retain the previous setup information, including components.

Kit and VA product versions are protected by operator security. Operators must have permission to view previous versions of kit and/or VA product setups. Users without the security to maintain versions can view the component information, but cannot add, edit, or delete the components or the kit or product.

You can create a new version of a component setup from the current version. The system copies the current version record to the new version and assigns the version number, by incrementing the last available version number for that setup by one, and assigns the creation date. You can create up to 999 versions for a particular setup. To maintain history of components used for kit and VA products, only the most recent version may be deleted, and only when that product setup has not been used on a VA order; previous versions can be modified only.

Previous version tolerances

With a new version of a product setup, the value of the kit may change from the previous setup. When the components of an open KP work order are changes for a new version of the kit setup, the difference in value between the two versions is checked. You can specify the degree of difference between the new value and the previous setup value as either an amount or a percentage in SA Administrator Options. If the difference exceeds the previous version tolerance value, a warning displays.

Kit setup versions

You can create setup records for stocked products that have been set up in Product Setup. All of your existing kit setup records will be considered version zero of the product setup for that product. You can create a new version to change the default component information. You can create up to 999 versions.

VA setup versions

You can create setup records for stock products that have been set up in Product Setup and for catalog products that have been set up in Product Catalog Setup. You can create setup records to use in a specific warehouse or to be used in all warehouses. Both Sales Order Entry and VA Order Entry use the latest product setup record. All of your existing VA product setup records will be considered version zero of the product setup for that VA product. You can create a new version to make changes to the fabrication process setup. You can create up to 999 versions.
