How are assets analyzed?
You can use Global Analysis to analyze assets at two levels:
- asset code level
- asset transaction level
You can use Analysis Structure (ANS) to assign up to 10 different analysis dimensions to each of these analyzable entities.
Analyzing Assets
To analyze each asset, use Asset Records (FAS) to enter an appropriate analysis code for each analysis dimension assigned to assets, if required. These codes are held against the asset itself and can be used to analyze assets.
For example, to report on assets by asset category you can define an analysis dimension called Asset Group, set up all of the asset group codes, and assign the analysis dimension to the asset entity. Enter the appropriate category code on each asset and use this code to select assets by category for reporting purposes.
Analyzing Asset Transactions
Up to 10 analysis dimensions can be entered on a ledger transaction, including the transactions that update assets.
To analyze these asset transactions, you can use Asset Posting Presets (FAS) to identify the default transaction analysis codes you require for postings to the asset, and you can also use Business Rules to subsequently validate or set the transaction analysis codes.
An asset posting preset identifies a combination of analysis code you wish to assign to transactions posting to the asset. Each posting preset is identified by a subcode, for the asset. Set up different posting preset subcodes to define different combinations of analysis codes for the asset. The transaction analysis codes appear as defaults during Ledger Entry (LEN) when a transaction references an asset code and subcode.
Apportioning Analysis
You can define a number of asset subcodes, or posting presets, for an asset and apportion the total depreciation for the asset across these different analysis codes using a predefined factor. The factor is specified on each posting preset subcode and is used to apportion the depreciation calculated in Depreciation Calculation (FDC).
For example, if four posting preset subcodes have been defined for an asset code and you want to split the depreciation equally over these subcodes, you can enter the depreciation factor as 1.000 for each subcode.
During asset disposal, the disposal transactions generated are also split according to the asset posting presets factors for each asset.
