Allocation Markers

Transactions have an allocation marker set to identify a particular processing requirement or status. There are several different allocation marker flags available, which have different meanings in the system.

Certain Financials functions set the allocation marker automatically to indicate the processing status of the transaction.

For example:

  • Payment Run (PYR) and Payment Collection Run (PYC) set the marker to Paid (or Paid Unmatched) to indicate that a transaction has been paid.
  • Account Allocations (ACA), the online allocation function of Ledger Entry (LEN), and Transaction Matching (TRM) set the allocation marker to Allocated when a transaction is matched against another.
  • Account Allocations (ACA) can be used to manually set selected allocation markers on a transaction.

A journal type can be defined to set an allocation marker automatically on the transactions in a journal during Ledger Entry (LEN). For example, you could define a journal type to always set the marker to Force.

You can use Ledger Allocation Indicators (LAI) to change the names of the allocation markers.

For further information on allocation markers see:

  • 'What Allocation Markers are Available?' for a list of the allocation markers and a summary of how the markers can be set or amended.
  • 'Updating the Allocation Markers Manually' for information on how to set the allocation markers on transactions.
  • 'Which Allocation Markers Must Balance' for details of the three allocation markers that can only be set on a balancing group of transactions.
Note:  The Allocation Markers are predefined, although you can change their name. A similar set of user defined codes, referred to as Allocation Codes, can be defined and automatically assigned to transactions by particular Financials functions. See 'What are Allocation Codes?'
