Preserving the Original Transaction in a Split

The Split facility in Account Allocations (ACA) can be used to split a transaction into one or more new transactions, totalling the same amount.

The Preserve Original Line Values setting in Ledger Setup (LES) determines whether the transaction you choose to split, the original transaction, is preserved unchanged, or altered by the split processing.

If the Preserve Original Line Values option is selected, the split transaction processing automatically generates a offset posting for the full value of the original transaction. The original transaction and its offset are both assigned the allocation marker of Correction. The split processing also generates two or more new transactions. The total of these new transactions must equal the original transaction value, in each currency. The new transactions contain all of the original transaction detail, for example the transaction reference, journal number, journal type and transaction date.

If the Preserve Original Line Values option is not selected, the original transaction amount is amended and one or more new split transactions are generated. The total of all these transactions must again equal the original transaction value.

The new transactions becomes the part of the transaction to be matched and its allocation marker is set to To Be Allocated automatically. The original transaction identifies the part of the original transaction that cannot yet be matched. Its allocation marker remains as it was, for example if the transaction you split has an allocation marker of Force, after the split the unallocated part of the transaction still contains this marker.
