Setting up standard extension fields

Standard extension fields are similar to custom extension fields, but unlike custom extension fields, standard extension fields are predefined and limited fields are available to update.

The extension field values reflect the standard field values of the equivalent static data record. For example, the equivalent code in the Analysis Table Id referenced on the analysis dimension.

To generate standard extension field values on existing analysis codes, an analysis dimension must be created with an Analysis Table Id and the Linked option selected. The standard extension field must also already exist.

Then when a new analysis code is created, the analysis code is automatically populated to the standard extension field. If an existing analysis code is amended, the changes are automatically updated on the standard extension field.

If there are any inconsistencies between the analysis table and an analysis code, you can correct this by selecting the Synchronize or Synchronize All options from the Action menu in Analysis Codes (ANC).

Note:  The Synchronize and Synchronize All options are only available if the analysis table is selected for the analysis dimension.

If the Analysis Table Linked option is later cleared on an analysis dimension, a warning message is displayed confirming that any existing standard extension fields will be removed and that the data on the standard extension fields will be cleared.

To ensure standard extension fields already exist, select the analysis dimension in Analysis Dimensions (AND). Ensure an Analysis Table Id is selected and that the Linked option is checked. From the Action menu select Extension Fields to display the existing extension fields.

Note:  If Analysis Table Id is not selected and the Linked option is unchecked, only the custom extension field type is available.

You can also create new standard extension fields. In Analysis Dimensions (AND) enter or query the analysis dimension for which you want to create a standard extension field. Select an Analysis Table Id and check the Linked option. From the Action menu select Extension Fields and click Create to display the Extension Field Setup form.

The Extension Field Type is automatically populated with Standard. Select an assigned field from the drop down list and click OK to activate the other fields.

From Select Standard Field, click the query button and choose the required standard field. The Name is automatically entered with the standard field name, this can be amended if required. Enter the description of the standard extension field, then click OK to return to extended analysis.

To update an existing standard extension field, select the standard extension field you want to change and select Amend from the Action menu. A warning message is displayed confirming that updating existing extension fields might impact the existing analysis codes and the functions which are using them. Select Yes to continue with the amendments or No to cancel. If you select Yes, the Extension Field Setup form is displayed. The only field available to update is the Description field. Once you have made the required amendments, click OK to save the changes.

To delete a standard extension field, select the standard extension field to be deleted and from the Action menu select Delete. A warning message is displayed confirming you want to delete the existing extension field, which may impact on other functions. Select Yes to this message to continue to delete or No to cancel.
