Adding a component to a bill of materials

Once you have set up a bill of materials you can add component items to it.

  1. Select Bill of Materials Manager (BOM) from the SunSystems menu.
  2. Select the Parent Item Code.
  3. Click New Version.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Components.
    The Bill of Materials Manager Component form is displayed.
  6. From the Action menu select Insert.
  7. Specify the Component Item Code.
    Note: The Component Item Code cannot be the Parent Item.
    The Component Sequence Number is automatically preset to the next value.
  8. Specify this information:
    Quantity Required
    The quantity of the component required for the finished item.
    Engineering Change Number
    The number of the change made in the engineering/design stage of the component. Used for information.
    Proportional or Fixed Quantity
    This indicates if the quantity of the component required is proportional to the base quantity of the BOM parent item or is a fixed quantity.

    For a fixed quantity component, the same amount of the component is needed regardless of how much of the parent item is being produced.

    Comment
    You can add any comments regarding the component in this field. For example, if the status of the component has been changed to Hidden you can specify the reason in this field.
    Phantom
    If this is set on a sales kit then the item is not added to the sales order. If it has a sales kit bill of material then it is exploded and the components added to the sales order.
