Setting the business unit to offline

Business Unit Administration allows you to set a business unit group or individual business units offline.

This means that any attempted connections to the business unit group or business unit, for example from SunSystems Application Server, Process Reporting, SSC, etc, is denied.

To change the status, select a business unit group or business unit that is online. From the Action menu, select Take Offline.

The process will check no users are connected, then ION and EDM services are stopped accordingly. A message is displayed confirming the business unit group or business unit will be taken offline. Once confirmed, the status of the business unit group or business unit is changed to offline and the action date and action time fields are updated.

If a selected business unit or business unit group is already offline, or is in the process of being taken offline, a message is displayed. If you wish to continue select yes to set the status of the remaining business unit groups or business units, to offline.

If users are connected to any of the selected business units, a message is displayed confirming there are users connected to the selected business units. If you continue, the users are unable to access any additional functions in the business unit and the business unit will continue to be taken offline. The user receives a message that the selected business unit is offline for administration and prevents them from proceeding. However, you can continue to run standalone reports against an offline business unit if connected to an online business unit.

Note:  The domain cannot be taken offline, only business units and business unit groups can be taken offline.

If all business units or business unit groups are offline, you can only access Business Unit Administration in SunSystems, providing you have sufficient permissions.

If the default business unit is offline, you will need to select another business unit when you enter a function or select a business unit from Change Business Unit (CBU). You can only select a business unit that is online.

Once a business unit or business unit group is set to offline, you can bring it back online when required. To bring a business unit group or business unit back online, select the offline business unit or business unit group and from the Action menu select Put Online.

If the business unit is in the process of being copied, a message is displayed confirming the business unit being copied cannot be brought online. To continue to bring the other business units in the business unit group online, deselect the copied business unit or cancel to amend the selected business units.

Once the process is complete, the status of the business unit is set to Online. The action code is set to Brought Online and the action date and action time fields are updated.

Once online, if the source business unit is not synchronized, an error dialog is displayed confirming that the business unit must be synchronized.

If ION is enabled you can not process any of the following:

  • Standard imports or exports on business units or business unit groups that are Offline or Going Offline.
  • Transactions from either the inbox or push table for business units or business unit groups that are Offline.
  • Transactions from the inbox for business units or business unit groups that are Going Offline.
  • Transactions from the push table for business units or business unit groups that are Going Offline and the publishing flag is set to Suspend.

If ION is enabled and there are outstanding rows in the push table, Business Unit Administration requests confirmation on the action to be taken on the unpublished data. You can either publish the outstanding ION data or not, or cancel the offline process entirely. If you choose not to publish the ION data, the publishing flag is set to Suspend.

If ION is not enabled you can not process any standard imports or exports on business units or business unit groups that are Offline or Going Offline.
