SunSystems Connect overview

SunSystems Connect (SSC) is an open integration toolset that enables you to link with other applications.

SunSystems Connect (SSC) provides an Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) interface through which developers can access SunSystems data and core functionality.

It is designed to allow the web and other applications to access SunSystems data via SunSystems business logic, and submit commercial transactions in real time. It has been developed using Java (TM) and publishes to the outside world a series of components that can be accessed through XML messages.

This means that any application compatible with industry standard XML can link to SunSystems data functions or application components.

An external application can:

  • Have direct look-up access to the data, in order to access reference information.
  • Pass data to SunSystems for processing. For example, a sales order created in an e-commerce application to be fulfilled by SunSystems.
  • Access a particular application process within SunSystems. For example, an e-commerce sales system that requires the pricing mechanism of goods.
Note: The SSC Technical Reference Help may benefit advanced users. It details the main technical features of SSC.

Benefits of SunSystems Connect

  • The integration capabilities of SunSystems enable the design of web applications that require real time access to SunSystems, where located both locally and remotely.
  • SunSystems functions and logical components can be exercised from within other application environments. So the capability, business rules or logic that are implemented in SunSystems do not have to be replicated in external applications.
  • As XML provides an industry standard mechanism for connecting organizations, SunSystems Connect provides a platform for sharing data and processes with suppliers or customers.
  • The published interfaces continue to be honoured as underlying functions are developed and changed. So you do not have to keep updating the interfaces you have developed. SunSystems Connect is therefore a contract of commitment to future proof and support your interfaces.

Summary

SunSystems can provide the backbone for most order fulfilment processes. However, there are some cases where a specialist application needs to be integrated within these processes. By using a combination of both SSC or SunSystems API, or both, you can integrate your SunSystems processes with other applications and the processes of your customers and suppliers.
