Defining the chart

In the chart's Properties dialog, specify the type of chart, the data to be charted and any labels, legends or titles for the chart.

Right-click on the chart and select Properties. This displays the Properties dialog.

  • Use the General tab to name the chart, specify the type of chart, give the chart a title, change the chart's background and choose a color for the plot area.
  • Use the Visibility tab to hide or reveal charts in reports.
  • Use the Data tab to select the data for charting, how the data is grouped, formatting styles and labels for values on the X and Y axes. You can also add links from your chart to an area in another section of the report.
  • Use the X Axis and Y Axis tabs to add titles for the range of values on the X and Y axes and how the titles are aligned, whether to show labels on the axis, major or minor gridlines and specify formatting styles for each. You can also specify for your chart, intervals for the grid, a minimum and a maximum for each scale, and where to place the baseline for your data.
  • Use the Legend tab to add a key to the data on the chart. Specify whether to display the key as a column, row or table. Specify for the legend the style of text, its position, and the color and style of the border and background.
