Comparing a global package

There may be cases where you want to generate a Compare report for the contents of a global package without launching a deployment to ensure that there is no risk of accidental deployment. To do this, you can compare a global package to a particular target tenant by following the steps described in this topic.

This launches a Compare report without launching a deployment. You can safely review the Compare report before deciding whether to proceed with launching a deployment. This feature is also known as Compare Only.

  1. Sign in to CSSP.
  2. Select Configuration Management > Entitled Global Packages.
  3. Click the hyperlink of the global package you want to deploy. The Global Package Details form appears.
  4. From the Available Package Version list, select the version you want to compare. You can select any version, with two exceptions:
    • You are comparing a version to a PRD tenant which is newer than any version you have deployed to a non-PRD tenant.
    • You are comparing a version to a tenant where a later version than the one you selected has already been deployed.
  5. From the Target Tenant list, select the tenant to which to deploy the package.
  6. Once you have selected a target tenant and a version, the Dependent Package List will populate accordingly. If that package version depends on any other global packages, for example, there is some object or integration that needs to first be installed on the target tenant via another global package, then the packages that satisfy the dependency will be listed in the table at the bottom of the screen. These packages must be deployed before your selected version can be compared to the target.
  7. Click the Deploy button to open the Deploy Global Package Wizard for each dependent package, or click Compare to open and complete the Compare Global Package Wizard so that you can preview the resources that will be deployed.
  8. Complete the deployment wizard and wait for the deployment to be completed before deploying the package version you originally intended to deploy.
  9. From the Global Package Details form, click Compare. The Compare Global Package Wizard appears.
  10. Click Next to go to the Package Version Applications page.
  11. From that page, select a target organization for each application if applicable.
  12. Click Next to go to the Review and Submit page.
  13. Click Submit and then click Yes to confirm the compare generation.
  14. You are automatically taken to the Compared Global Packages screen. From there, you can see the progress of the Compare report generation.
  15. Once the status of the request changes to Success, click the row for that request.
  16. Navigate to Stage 2 - Compare.
  17. Click Review Compare Report.
