Local packages

A local package is a collection of resources for one or more applications. It can be exported from a source tenant and deployed to a target tenant.

You can create local packages in two different ways:

  • You can use tags to identify the resources to be included. Tags are created from CSSP and then resources can be assigned to the tag from each application. After all resources are tagged, the package can be created from CSSP using the tag. This is the recommended approach to create a local package.
  • You can select the resource from each application manually from CSSP. This has certain limitations and may not be as intuitive as tagging resources within applications. This is only recommended in certain cases, such as when you need to add just a few, specific resources to a package. Application-specific guides may advise on other cases where manual selection is preferred.

After you create a local package, you deploy it to a target tenant to update the target’s existing resources using the information from the local package. Local packages are retained for 12 months after creation. After 12 months, local packages are automatically deleted.
